DECO Syntactic Classification

DECO Syntactic information is provided in DECO dictionary with the 4-letter-tags starting with the prefix Y-. The tags for the syntactic classes of adjectives starts with YA- and those of verbs with YV-.

1. Category ADJECTIVE: 15 syntactic classes

Syntactic classification of Adjectives is conducted on about 6,400 entries (including about 800 entries not yet determined in the version V02-2010).

There are 15 Syntactic Classes created according to the numbers and the types of complements, the distribution of nouns in the subject position and the complement positions, and the equivalent sentence types for the given structure (Cf. Jeesun Nam 1994/1996/2007).

2. Category VERB: 11 syntactic classes

Syntactic classification of Verbs is conducted on about 27,500 entries (including about 7,700 entries not yet determined in the version V02-2010).

There are 11 syntactic classes created according to the same principles as for adjectives (Cf. So-Yun Kim & Jee-Sun Nam 2011).

There are unary-argument structures, binary-argument structures and trinary-argument structures: some of those syntactic classes should be sub-divided and refined with more subtle criteria in further studies.
